One writer, unknown, defines a miracle as an event where God is circumventing the natural order, in order, to do something extraordinary. But miracles have a purpose, which is to ultimately glorify God. When we glorify God, we are putting Him on display. I would think each of us has experienced an occurrence or event in our lives and we attribute it all to the power of God. But, do we give God thanks and praises for intervening on our behalf on such occasions? Do we put Him on display or do we just shrug it off as God doing what God does?
Someone recently asked the question, “Does God still perform miracles?” My answer was, yes, He does all the time. Too often we neglect or take the time to acknowledge those inexplicable events that are worth sharing. Those of us who are familiar with the Bible understand and know some of the many miracles that Jesus performed while on earth in human form. As we take a peep at the Old Testament, God performs one miracle after another. Think about it for a moment and ask yourself if God has ever performed a miracle before your own eyes and you can’t keep it to yourself.
Recently, I heard two young ladies give a testimony regarding a mass that the doctors detected and both would require surgery. Long story short, in both instances, the mass disappeared and the surgery was not necessary. The doctors and staff were in awe and could not explain this phenomenon. The good news is that the surgeons and nurses gave all praises, thanks and glory to a sovereign God.
One reason our healing stories are important and should be shared is because they increase our faith and demonstrates the awesomeness of our God. When we share our stories, it may provide hope and strength to others who need to hear from and about God.
There are occasions when miracle stories are shared, and they sound too good to be true. They are so sensational that we question the credibility of the story. Rather than question, why not give the Creator His due by trusting that He will and can do the same for all of us.
A dear friend shared a story regarding her encounter with God on her death bed. She indicated that she had died and come back to life. The doctors had pretty much given up on her, but our God had greater plans for her life. To a believer, it was exciting and remarkable to hear that our God was still in the healing business. To an unbeliever, there may be a question as to the authenticity of the story, but it may also trigger some interest in a God that has the power to do what he wants to do and when he wants to do it. There are no limits and restrictions to what a supreme God can and will do. The good news is that your story is your story and you should stick to it.
As Christians, the resurrection story of Jesus Christ is one of the greatest miracle stories ever told. It signifies Jesus’ victory over death and is seen as the basis for the Christian faith.
If you are trying to think of a personal miracle story and find it difficult to do so, give thought to the fact that we serve a God who forgive sins and offers eternal life. Imagine who and what you used to be, but observe how God has transformed your life and you can declare that you are free from the influences and temptations in this old world.
Throughout the Bible, we see evidence of Jesus healing the sick, casting out demons, controlling nature, raising the dead, and many more. When we read about these miracles, they increase our faith and may encourage others to believe in Jesus. Who would not want to serve a God who is in control of all good things?
The Bible says in John 20: 30-31, “The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life by the power of His name.”
At some point in time, put our God on display for His many acts of love.
Just my thoughts!
