Evelyn Shaw Scholarship Ministry

Being that our beloved sister, Evelyn Shaw, was a devoted member of Genesis Covenant Church and scholarship chairperson, it seems only fitting to name the ministry in her honor. Sister Shaw was instrumental in assisting students matriculate through her Alma Mata, Elizabeth City State University. She remained faithful to her Alma Mata years after her graduation. Throughout her 50 years in education, Evelyn assisted high school students complete their service hours and fulfill their requirements for graduation. 

Purpose

The Scholarship Ministry will embark on avenues that will raise funds for students attending a two-year or four-year institution of higher learning. Students must show evidence of enrollment for each semester a scholarship is awarded. The goal is to present the student(s) with a specified amount annually.

Requirements

Any student receiving a scholarship must be a member of Genesis Covenant Church in good standing. Good standing suggests the student(s) be involved in some ministry activities and attend church periodically. A student must submit a letter of request annually to the scholarship committee stating why he/she should receive the scholarship. The letter of request should be submitted to the chairperson of the ministry no later than September 15th each year. A document from the university’s registers office will be requested each semester showing proof that the student is enrolled.    

Ministry Responsibilities

The scholarship ministry will be responsible for keeping an open line of communication with our college students via cards, letters, emails, telephone, etc.

Ministry Membership

Members of the Scholarship Ministry shall not be a parent or grandparent of a recipient.
